Held in Rio de Janeiro, Argentina won their first major title in 28 years

Argentina defeated Brazil 1-0 in the final of the 2021 Copa America on Saturday, July 10. The match was played at the Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro and was the 47th final of the Copa America, a quadrennial tournament contested by the men's national teams of the member associations of CONMEBOL.

Angel Di Maria scored the only goal of the match in the 22nd minute, giving Argentina their first major title since the 1993 Copa America.

The victory was also a special moment for Lionel Messi, who won his first major international title with Argentina. Messi had been part of the Argentina team that lost in the finals of the 2007, 2015, and 2016 Copa Americas, as well as the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

With the victory, Argentina moved to the top of the CONMEBOL all-time Copa America standings with 15 titles, one more than Uruguay.
